Are Your Grandparents Using Social Media?

Here’s a really interesting infographic I came across this morning on the Flowtown blog that highlights some recent trends in the social media world. Apparently, the older crowd (50+) is warming up to social media and users in this demographic have skyrocketed over the past few months.

My mom, my aunts and my uncle are all 50+ and on Facebook. I love it because a) they’re hilarious and some of the conversations on there get a little out of hand b) they’re always posting old family photos and c) I live like a thousand miles away from them so FB makes it easy to keep in touch

Which is exactly why I think we are seeing this huge spike in users. Facebook is such an awesome way for families that are separated by distance to re-connect. And yes, some of my family members say pretty hilarious things which is always fun :)

I WISH my grandma would just get on the internet ! it’s such a good way to see what your friends & family are up to. I feel bad because I hardly ever print out photos anymore, most everything is up on flickr or FB albums. I wish she could just get online. because its so much easier than me printing out and sending via snail mail! :) (yes that does sound really lazy)
