Featured Album this Week (11/8/10): “A Hymn Revival” by The Lower Lights

The Lower Lights - A Hymn Revival

I swear folk music is making a comeback. This week’s featured album landed the #3 spot on Bandcamp’s top albums last week, and it looks like it may be there for quite some time.

In the fall of 2009, the people of The Lower Lights came together to record 30+ songs in a span of only five days. These songs are a celebration of both familiar and forgotten hymns, and a total of fifteen songs were chosen for this particular album.

I’m not sure how many people were involved in the creation of this album, but from the header picture on their Bandcamp page, it looks like it took a small army to complete the project.

I am not a particularly religious person, but I don’t think you have to be in order to enjoy these songs. These songs all send good messages, and the way The Lower Lights re-arranged them allows you to experience them in a totally different way.

You can listen to the first four hymns on the album via Bandcamp (or from the player here), and if you like what you hear, download the entire 15-song album for only $10.99.
