Featured Album this Week (7/12/10): “A New Dawn EP” by Circus Envy

Circus Envy - A New Dawn EP

I’ve been going EP crazy lately, and this gem was sent to my Official.fm drop box last week. This week’s album is by a folky band that is extremely low key, and I definitely like that combination.

Even better, while trolling around for no more than five seconds on Google, I found their MySpace (designed by MySpace360Wizard), official website (WordPress-based), and Bandcamp store. Although their music has classic, dated folky/roots rock vibes, they really understand the importance of having a solid online presence.

Their latest work, “A New Dawn,” is a really awesome 5-song collection that touches upon multiple genres. Circus Envy does an amazing job of weaving many genres together seamlessly. I hear elements of roots rock, folk, irish dance tunes, and even some elements of cinematic music. I can totally picture Circus Envy writing the score for an old-fashioned movie taking place in the countryside of some European country.

Oh, and the vocal harmonizing at the beginning of “The Game” legitimately gave me goosebumps. Great stuff, guys.

On their website, they are offerring up a free download of their live performance at the Ropery Hall in Barton-upon-Humber on 26th March 2010. Download that here.

Do yourself a favor and purchase this 5-song EP for the ridiculously low price of ₤3.45 over at their Bandcamp store.
