Featured Album this Week (5/12/10): “Beyond All Spheres of Force and Matter” by Dr. Quandary

Released in mid April of this year, I stumbled across this incredible instrumental hip-hop album, and absolutely had to make it the first featured album on my blog. Dr. Quandary is a Boston-based beat machine/producer that constantly pumps out great music, most of which he then gives away to his fans for free. His most recent effort, “Beyond All Spheres of Force and Matter,” combines the Indian flavors of the sitar, with straight hip-hop beats and psychedelic ambience. I could easily envision every song on this album as great soundtrack music to a kick ass action movie.
My personal favorite on the entire album is “Misconceptions.” I really think the sitar is one of the coolest sounding instruments ever created, and Dr. Quandary’s use of it on this track is truly inspiring. His combination of the instrument with class hip-hop beats brings familiarity to the track, and really holds the entire thing together. I almost don’t even notice, or care, that there are no vocals in the song. It’s not even needed.
And it just so happens that my favorite track on the album is the only one available for free download. Talk about lucky! Click on the Bandcamp widget below to download the track directly from Dr. Quandary:
If you are interested in his creative process, and how he produces these incredible tracks, check out this amazing interview with Dr. Quandary over at WishTank. Very insightful. Also, you can purchase the entire 10-track album (in high quality) for only $5 over at his Bandcamp store. I suggest you do that.
