Featured Album this Week (10/18/10): “Ghost Town EP” by First Aid Kit

As of late, I find myself gravitating towards folk music. I think with the widespread success of bands like Mumford & Sons, I have been filled with some sort of newfound appreciation for the genre.
First Aid Kit is a female duo from Sweden that I fell in love with almost instantaneously. They write, record, and mix their music all on their own, and even design their own artwork (DIY points!!).
Their vocal harmonies produce incredible ear candy, and are what kept me listening past the first ten seconds. Both of these girls are amazing singers, and their minimalist instrumentation to accompany the vocals balances out their songs perfectly.
“Ghost Town EP” is a very short, two-song EP, and the precursor (I think?) to their debut album, “The Big Black & The Blue,” which I recently purchased on vinyl. The track “Ghost Town” made it onto the album, but the other track “When I Grow Up,” didn’t, so the only way to get that one is from this short EP.
When you purchase “Ghost Town EP” on iTunes, it also comes with the official video for the song “Ghost Town”, which was very beautifully done and adds a new dimension to the lyrics, and their image. This really is folk pop done brilliantly.
