Featured Album this Week (10/4/10): “Landscape of Animals” by Ghost Cousin

After sifting through my dropbox this morning, I came across a really excellent track, from an even better EP, created by a kickass band from Canada.
Ghost Cousin is a four-piece indie band from Edmonton, and self-acclaims their music as “impressionist pop.” That really is quite an accurate description, because the simple and pop-laden melodies throughout the EP are laced with this lush, spacial sound which gives it a very unique vibe and sounds much different than any typical indie pop band these days.
If I had to pick, I’d say these guys are similar to Arcade Fire, Of Montreal, Patrick Watson, and a few other “art rockers” that have exploded out of the Canadian music scene. What sets them apart, in my opinion, is the vocals, which are very folk-influenced.
All around great stuff! If they pressed vinyl, I’d buy one in a second.
For now, though, you can download their entire EP for free on their Bandcamp page.
