Featured Album this Week (5/16/11): “No Más” by JAVELIN

Javelin - No Mas

I saw this band open for Sleigh Bells last Friday at The Stone Pony, and I was so impressed that I had to find them online the next morning. They have some really fun web pages (go make some beats here), which distracted me for most of my Saturday morning. By 9AM I found myself making beats on top of their beats, haha!

Javelin is a two-man group from Providence, RI (now Brooklyn) that performs some super-tasty electronic music. During the gig I saw, they left their laptops at home and relied on things like drum machines, cymbals, effects pedals, and some other wacky gadgets that when combined, made for an incredibly electrifying performance. They did such an awesome job of pumping up the crowd before Sleigh Bells went on, so naturally I had to get my hands on some music the morning after.

No Más is a very eclectic collection of tracks, and (honestly) is probably not for everybody. The album starts out sounding very reminiscent of an MGMT power-electro ballad, but splits into about fourteen different directions after that (there are fifteen songs on the album). The album is definitely a fun listen with loads of interesting sounds to furrow your brow at. Oh, and you can totally dance to this ish. If you only have time to listen to one track, listen to “C Town,” such an awesome groove!

You can download No Más on their label’s website, Luala Pop. Also, you can get your hands on a bunch of free JAVELIN tracks on their website (some of which are on this album!).

Fun sounds.  Like the old school setup of the website too.  Totally 90′s style.
