Featured Album this Week (1/17/11): “Ordinary Life” by Brett Goldsmith

Fed up with the extraordinary lifestyle of playing bass for James Reyne, producing gold and platinum selling records for artists like Olivia Newton-John and Chantoozies, photographing celebrities, and assisting his father with his multi-million dollar night club business, Brett Goldsmith began craving solitude.
Brett recently moved out to the rural area of Victoria, Australia to live the ordinary life for a while. During this time, Brett self-recorded and produced his solo debut album, appropriately titled “Ordinary Life.”
Brett has an incredibly polished sound, and you can tell he’s been honing his craft for many years. This dude sounds like an awesome combination of Bon Iver, John Mayer, The Fray, and The Wallflowers. The entire album is pretty ballad-heavy, with a couple exceptions like “Waiting for the Train,” which I think was my favorite track on the album. It instantly brought me back to the mid 90′s, when I wanted every song to sound like The Verve’s ripoff ballad, “Bittersweet Symphony.”
Overall, I really enjoyed Brett’s album. A great listen, and if you want you can download the album directly from his website, thanks to the awesome technologies of Reverbnation and Audiolife.
