Featured Album this Week (10/11/10): “Strange New World” by Leaving Atlantis

Here we go again, another hidden gem has landed in my dropbox! The second I heard this girl belt it out, I was transfixed.
Leaving Atlantis consists of Vesa Haapanen & Signe Gry Thorup, two interesting humanoids out of Europe with pretty unique names. They are currently working on their first full-length LP, but for now they have this very pretty 4-song album to share with the world.
The vocals on these songs are what struck me the most, and I immediately thought of bands like Metric, Florence and the Machine, Bjork, and (forgive me) Enya. She has an ethereal yet soulful voice, and it helps to create very deep and atmospheric songs.
My favorite track, by far, was “Solitaire” – the mixture of violin and vocals was beautifully arranged, and when the drums enter, they punch you square in the ear.
However, one thing that upset me is that I could not find ANY links to download or purchase these songs. I gave up in frustration after about 10 minutes of searching. Oh well – looks like I’ll just have to listen to it from their SoundCloud account for now!
