Featured Album this Week (1/10/11): “The Infinite Definitive” by Unknown Component

Keith Lynch is Unknown Component, a musical project that began back in 2002 in Iowa City, Iowa. Keith is a true DIY-er, which definitely warrants some respect because I think this album came out great. Not only does Keith play all the instruments and record the vocals for each album, he also writes all the lyrics and music, and designed the album’s artwork.
To me, Keith (@unknowncomp) sounds like a less whiney version of Mac McCaughan, Merge Records co-founder and lead pipes behind Superchunk. I really liked the intro for “Collections of the State,” and the song takes a very interesting turn immediately after which is pretty cool. If I had to choose, my favorite track off the album would be “Foundation of Rebellion.”
You can download the entire album directly from Keith’s website. He’s rocking the “pay what you want” model, so if you feel inclined, click the pretty Paypal donate button on top of the page to show some love to this DIY-er from middle America. :)
