Featured Album this Week (8/16/10): “The Sound” by Color Theory

Color Theory - The Sound

This week’s featured album comes from a dude that I totally respect for his music industry savvy. And it just so happens that his newest album kicks some major ass. Brian Hazard is a mastering engineer, recording artist, and writes an amazing blog on music promotion techniques.

Brian Hazard is Color Theory, and his latest work “The Sound” really caught my ear. His voice is very unique, and instantly intrigued me to listen further, and dive deep into his music catalog. He does a really incredible job of combining electronic music with classical piano riffs and ethereal-sounding vocals.

Throughout Brian’s latest album, I get some very big Depeche Mode vibes from the instrumentation, but the addition of classical piano really stands out in a way that defines his style, and makes him different from the rest.

What’s really interesting about Color Theory is that he does not do any live shows. He is strictly a recording artist, yet he has managed to build a substantial fan base that absolutely loves his music. There is even a German fan site that has surfaced for Color Theory! Brian is completely transparent with his financials, too. He posts his quarterly sales on his blog, and they are always amazingly detailed.

If you dig what you’re hearing, head over to Color Theory’s music store and purchase the new album, or any of the interesting package deals that he currently has for sale.

I wonder if he can master his own music after spending all that time recording it?

I know when I finish my ears are broke…

I’m pretty sure he does, if I’m not mistaken … really impressive. Same here, my ears grow tired after recording and mixing, making mastering all the more difficult (as if it wasn’t difficult enough!)

I do master my own music, but only after running it by some producer friends for mix suggestions. It’s definitely not ideal, but I’m not willing to trust it to anyone else.
