Featured Album this Week (10/25/10): “Vampires with Dreaming Kids” by Twin Sister

A couple of days ago, I saw a status update on Facebook from Lindsay Shutt, the design/marketing hustler from music startup YAWMA. Using YAWMA’s Facebook app, she shared a track called “Ginger” by a band named Twin Sister. YAWMA’s Facebook app allows you to preview the track right from the status update, which is exactly what I did, and I was blown away by the song. Indie chill-out music at it’s finest.
After listening, I headed over to Twin Sister’s profile on YAWMA, and previewed a couple more tracks. I decided to take the plunge and purchase their 4-song EP, “Vampires with Dreaming Kids,” for a mere $3.96.
As a digital marketing guy who spends more time at a computer than anywhere else, sometimes I have to step away and take a short break from the madness of the Internet. I often find myself turning to music, and this short EP is just the right length, and has the calming vibe I look for when taking those short breaks from the computer.
This EP, for the most part, is extremely melodic, calming, and heavily relies on the vocals to drive each tune. At times, though, the songs have some lo-fi, haunting, and (sort of) ominous undertones that make the songs more interesting to me (ie. the intro to “Nectarine”). Overall, it still produces a nice “chill-out” vibe.
You can learn more about Twin Sister, watch videos, and preview and purchase their music over at their profile on YAWMA.
