Featured Album This Week (5/17/10): “Was Right All Along” by Allison Weiss

Allison Weiss - Was Right All Along

The greatest thing about music is its ability to evoke emotions. If you are ever feeling down (or human), and need an ironic “pick me up,” then have a listen to Allison Weiss’ newest album, “…Was Right All Along.” Everyone likes to reflect on the good and bad times of the past, and sometimes all we can do to stay sane is have a good laugh about it all. Allison’s music combines sad, yet hopeful and clever lyrics with happy, upbeat indie folk instrumentals that is reminiscent of reminiscing. I love it.

My favorite track on the album “Try To Understand,” which strays a bit from cutesy, indie folk vibe of the rest of the album, but in a good way. The lyrics are clearly passionate and reflect a past relationship, and the music plays on this theme so well. The guitar riff in the beginning instantly grabs my attention.

Allison Weiss is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and a singer/songwriter known for her quirkyness, message of hopeless hope, and an incredibly loyal online following. She’s also a web designer, graphic designer, and even directs her own music videos! She really gets the digital age of music, and is leveraging many free tools that are available to everyone to create a tight knit community around her music.

One of the coolest aspects of this album is the fact that it was 100% funded by her fans, via Kickstarter. She is a perfect example of effective crowdsourcing, which is something all artists should be thinking about, and possibly pursuing.

Check out Allison’s cute/funny Tumblr blog here, and for god’s sake buy her album over at Bandcamp. Screw iTunes.
