Featured Album this Week (6/14/10): “Whimsical EP” by The Postponers

This week’s featured album is short, but totally sweet. The 4-song “Whimsical EP” by dutch indie rockers The Postponers initially grabbed my attention on Bandcamp with its goofy, Rubik’s cube artwork…so I clicked and decided to give it a shot. Good thing I did, because this is a great little EP! The intro to the first song, “60 Million Things,” reminded me of a slowed down version of Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks,” and stopped me from closing the browser window.
The vocals from lead singer, J.B. Dazen slightly remind me of Weezer, with his voice going slightly out of tune in places, but in a kind of awesome way. Also, I really love the guitar tones in the second song, “Pull the Plug.” They sound so damn good, and make for a very fun and danceable tune.
A really interesting thing about the Whimsical EP is that everything is subject to sudden, unannounced changes. WHAT? That means the artwork could change, the track list may be shuffled around, and completely different songs may be thrown into the mix! Definitely unique, and a really interesting, evolutionary way to approach art.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much information on these guys. They have a MySpace, and their official website redirects right back to their Bandcamp page. Sooo…I don’t really have much else to say, besides, listen to this EP! It is really great, and you could tell these guys put a lot of effort into it. If you REALLY enjoy it, you can buy the entire thing for 2.29 euro…which is roughly 2.77319 dollars today. You can also check back every now and again to see if the EP evolves into something completely different, which can happen.
Dirt cheap, awesome tunes, it doesn’t get much better than that, right?
