Featured Album this Week (2/28/11): “White” by Mariana Magnavita
This week’s album is a bit outside my comfort zone, but there is something here that intrigues me.
Mariana Magnavita was brought up in both Brazil and England, spending an incredible amount of her time on hot beaches and English countrysides (I’m already jealous). After graduating college with a film background, she decided to pursue music and created this wonderful album, “White.”
The first song I heard was “We Walk Alone,” which also has a very well-produced video accompanying it (see below). I was attracted to her voice initially. It sounded confident but occasionally unsure and wavering to me, providing a very unique contrast. This entire album has a very chilling and cinematic vibe to it, using lots of minor chords and stringed instruments.
