Introducing Hibe: Social Networking After Facebook [SLIDESHOW]
Today, I came across this very interesting emerging social network called Hibe, that seems to function in a way that is much similar to how we function in our real life social networks. With Facebook and most popular social networks, we have all of our friends lumped into one giant category, and everything you post about can be seen by everybody. In real life, you have groups of people that you hang out with and act differently around (work, family, friends, etc), and this is how Hibe functions.
Hibe lets its users create multiple “facets” of their identies, which is what we do in real life when interacting with different groups of people within our social networks. These facets are only visible to the people that you interact with when using that “facet” of your identity. For example, if I created a “Night Life Chris” facet of my identity on Hibe, I can set it up so that only my friends that I hang out with at night will be able to see what I post from that particular facet.
I know what you’re thinking, and you’re probably right — this can get really complicated and time-consuming, really fast. I don’t know how willing I would be to have to go through all of that set-up just for a social networking website…
Signing up for pre-launch beta accounts is currently closed to the general public, unfortunately, but you can still enter in your e-mail in the even somebody drops out. I’d love to play around with this and see how it compares to the traditional social networking models that we know and use everyday.
Anybody manage to get their hands on an account? If so, leave some feedback in the comments!
